# Case Interview Examples: 42 Real Cases from McKinsey, BCG, Bain & 11 More (2026)

*Updated May 2026 · By Florian Smeritschnig, Former McKinsey Senior Consultant*

The 42 best free case interview examples in 2026 are the ones the consulting firms publish themselves, six from (http://mckinsey.com), four from (http://bain.com), three from (http://bcg.com), eleven from Deloitte, plus official cases from Kearney, Strategy&, Accenture, Roland Berger, Oliver Wyman, Simon Kucher, OC&C, Capital One, and Bridgespan. Every other “case bank” online recycles second-hand material written by MBA students, not the firms.

After conducting more than 2,200 mock case interviews and helping 700+ candidates land offers at McKinsey, BCG, and Bain, I’ve worked through every public case the firms have ever released. Most candidates burn weeks on mediocre student-written cases and walk into their interview pattern-matching against the wrong cases.

Below is a collection I’d hand to a candidate who wants to prepare for their interviews without spending a single cent, with a difficulty score and an interviewer’s verdict on each one.

## **Key Takeaways**

- **42 firm-provided case examples** are publicly available, McKinsey (6), Deloitte (11), BCG (4), Bain (4), Bridgespan (4), Roland Berger (4), Accenture (2), Oliver Wyman (2), Kearney (1), Strategy& (1), Simon Kucher (1), OC&C (1), Capital One (1)

- **Top 3 to start with**: McKinsey’s *Beautify* (interviewer-led McKinsey style), Bain’s *Coffee* case (associate consultant level), BCG’s *Climate* case (modern sustainability angle)

- **Skip the recycled “case banks”**, pages with 100+ “cases” mostly recycle student-written material from a decade ago

- **Free MBA casebooks add another 48 sources**, see the (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/) for a tier-rated list of all consulting club casebooks

- **Volume is the wrong metric**: 8-12 high-quality cases with reflection beats 60 cases on autopilot

## **Why These Case Interview Examples Matter (And Why Others Don’t)**

The cases below are the ones consulting firms wrote themselves, for their own candidates. That distinction matters more than most candidates realize.

When you practice a case from McKinsey’s careers site, you’re practicing against the same evaluation criteria a real McKinsey interviewer applies. The case structure, the level of difficulty, the data exhibits, even the way the prompt is delivered, all of it reflects what the firm actually tests. Compare that to a case scraped off a forum or written by a second-year MBA who passed cases the year before. The student-written case captures *what someone remembered being asked*, not what the firm currently evaluates against.

After being on the other side of the table for 2,200+ interviews, the gap between firm-written and student-written cases is obvious within ten seconds. Firm cases force first-principles thinking. Student cases reward template recall. Modern McKinsey, BCG, and Bain interviews now actively penalize template recall.

That’s why this collection focuses on official sources. Use the firm-written cases as your primary practice material. Use the (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/) as supplementary practice.

## **How to Actually Use These Case Interview Examples**

Most candidates use these cases the wrong way. They run through the prompt, sketch a structure, look at the suggested answer, and tell themselves they “did” the case. That’s reading, not practicing.

Here’s the protocol I use with every candidate I coach:

1. Read only the prompt and any clarifying questions allowed. Cover the suggested answer.
2. Do the case under realistic time pressure, 25 minutes for a full case, with a partner if possible, alone if not. Talk out loud. Sketch your structure on paper.
3. Reach a recommendation before you look at the firm’s answer. The recommendation is the test, not the structure.
4. Compare your work to the firm’s answer. Specifically: where did your structure miss a driver they identified? Where did your math diverge? What did you not see in the exhibits?
5. Write a 5-line reflection, what was hard, what was your weakest moment, what specific habit are you going to drill before the next case.
6. Re-do the same case 5-7 days later with the suggested answer hidden again. The improvement on the second pass is the actual learning.

If you skip steps 3, 4, and 5, the case doesn’t count. You’re reading a case, not practicing one. (For the deeper why on this, see (https://strategycase.com/when-preparation-misses-the-mark-the-gap-between-applicants-and-consulting-firms/).)

Eight cases practiced this way will outperform forty cases done on autopilot. The candidates I’ve coached to MBB offers rarely did more than 25-30 full cases. They reflected hard on each one.

## **McKinsey Case Interview Examples**

McKinsey publishes six full case interview examples on its careers site. These are the closest you can get to McKinsey’s actual problem-solving interview style without sitting in a room with a McKinsey interviewer.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.mckinsey.com/careers/interviewing/beautify) | Interviewer-led, full case | Intermediate | Cleanest example of McKinsey’s interviewer-led style |
| (https://www.mckinsey.com/careers/interviewing/diconsa) | Public sector, social impact | Intermediate | Non-profit / public sector reasoning |
| (https://www.mckinsey.com/careers/interviewing/electrolight) | Pricing, B2B | Intermediate | Pricing logic and exhibit interpretation |
| (https://www.mckinsey.com/careers/interviewing/globapharm) | Pharma R&D | Advanced | Industry-specific reasoning, life sciences |
| (https://www.mckinsey.com/careers/interviewing/national-education) | Public sector, education | Intermediate | Stakeholder analysis, qualitative judgment |
| (https://www.mckinsey.com/careers/interviewing/talbot-trucks) | Operations, electric vehicles | Advanced | Modern operations + sustainability angle |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Start with Beautify. It’s the cleanest demonstration of how a McKinsey interviewer drives the case, and the suggested answer reflects current evaluation criteria. Talbot Trucks is the most recent and most “2026-relevant”, sustainability and EV transition show up in McKinsey cases more often each year. GlobaPharm is harder than the others and best done after you’ve worked through 10+ cases elsewhere.

For the firm-specific structuring patterns these cases test, see the (https://strategycase.com/mckinsey-case-interview/) and the broader (https://strategycase.com/the-mckinsey-interview-process-the-only-post-you-need-to-read/).

## **Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Case Interview Examples**

BCG publishes three interactive online cases plus a written case study. The interactive cases mirror the candidate-led style BCG uses in live interviews.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://quiz.bcg.com/climate-case-bcg) | Interactive, sustainability | Intermediate | Modern BCG sustainability angle |
| (https://quiz.bcg.com/digital-strategy-case-study-bcg) | Interactive, digital transformation | Intermediate | Digital reasoning, growth strategy |
| (https://quiz.bcg.com/it-architecture-case-study-bcg) | Interactive, tech/IT | Advanced | Technical reasoning for non-tech candidates |
| (https://www.scribd.com/document/445029152/BCG-written-case) | Written case PDF | Advanced | Written case round preparation |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: BCG’s interactive cases are uniquely valuable because they force you to make decisions in real time without an interviewer to anchor on. Climate Case is the most modern in framing, sustainability cases now appear in BCG first-round interviews regularly. The written case PDF is essential preparation for the BCG written case round, which a meaningful share of candidates encounter and few prepare for.

For the structuring approach BCG specifically tests, the (https://strategycase.com/case-interview-frameworks/) walks through candidate-led structuring patterns.

## **Bain and Company Case Interview Examples**

Bain publishes four official practice cases, two for the Associate Consultant level (undergraduate / advanced degree entry) and two for the Consultant level (MBA / experienced hire). All four reflect Bain’s hypothesis-first, answer-first interview style.

| Case | Level | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.bain.com/careers/interview-prep/case-library/coffee-case-study/) | Consultant | Intermediate | Classic Bain MBA-level case, profitability + growth |
| (https://www.bain.com/careers/interview-prep/case-library/fashioco-case-study/) | Consultant | Intermediate | Retail / fashion industry case |
| (https://www.bain.com/careers/hiring-process/interviewing/associate-consultant-practice-case-interview/) | Associate Consultant | Beginner-Intermediate | Undergraduate-level practice case |
| (https://www.bain.com/careers/hiring-process/interviewing/consultant-practice-case-interview/) | Consultant | Intermediate | MBA-level interactive practice |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: All four Bain cases reward what Bain calls answer-first thinking, state your hypothesis early, drive toward the recommendation, and keep the structure tight. The Coffee case is the canonical Bain example most candidates know; FashionCo is the better practice if you’ve already worked Coffee. Pair these with the (https://strategycase.com/answer-first-bain/) for the structuring discipline Bain interviewers grade hardest on.

## **Deloitte Case Interview Examples**

Deloitte publishes the largest collection of free official case interview examples, 11 cases across Strategy, Operations, Human Capital, and Technology. The cases reflect Deloitte Consulting’s broad practice areas.

| Case | Practice Area | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/finance-strategy) | Strategy / Finance | Intermediate | CFO advisory style cases |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/leadauto) | Strategy / Automotive | Intermediate | Automotive industry case |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/talent-management) | Human Capital | Intermediate | HR / organisational design |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/case-study-recreation-unlimited) | Strategy / Consumer | Intermediate | Consumer goods case |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/xfintech-inc) | Strategy / Fintech | Intermediate | Fintech industry case |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/data-exfiltration) | Cyber / Risk | Advanced | Risk and cybersecurity case |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/case-study-applied-ai-automation-and-the-future-of-work) | Strategy / AI | Intermediate | Modern AI / future-of-work angle |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/architecture-strategy) | Technology | Advanced | Tech strategy case |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/capital-projects) | Operations | Intermediate | Capital allocation / infrastructure |
| (https://usrecruiting.deloitte.com/real-estate-valuation) | Financial Advisory | Intermediate | Real estate finance case |
| (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0417/7869/files/Monitor_Written_Case_Footloose.pdf) | Written case PDF | Advanced | Written case round preparation |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Deloitte’s cases skew more operational and less abstract than MBB cases. Finance Strategy and Recreation Unlimited are the closest to MBB-style strategy cases. Applied AI Automation is the most modern in framing. The Footloose written case is the canonical Monitor Deloitte written case, essential preparation for any Deloitte S&O written round.

## **Strategy& Case Interview Examples**

Strategy& (the strategy consulting arm of PwC) publishes one official case study workbook.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://d3no4ktch0fdq4.cloudfront.net/public/course/files/Strategy_Case_Study.pdf) | PDF workbook | Intermediate | Strategy& interview preparation |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: A solid official source if you’re targeting Strategy&. Pair with MBB-level cases above, Strategy& interviews lean more strategy-classical than McKinsey or BCG, but the structuring rigor is similar.

## **Accenture Case Interview Examples**

Accenture publishes two case workbook PDFs covering technology and management consulting case styles.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.accenture.com/content/dam/accenture/final/a-com-migration/manual/r2-2-r2-3/pdf/careers/pdf-14/Accenture-FY19-Case-Workbook.pdf) | PDF workbook | Intermediate | Accenture Strategy / consulting cases |
| (https://www.accenture.com/t20180913t100614z__w__/us-en/_acnmedia/careers/pdf-14/accenture-fy19-case-workbook-one-accenture-consulting.pdf) | PDF workbook | Intermediate | Broader Accenture practice areas |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Accenture’s cases lean implementation-heavy compared to MBB. Use these specifically if you’re targeting Accenture Strategy or Accenture Consulting; they don’t substitute for MBB-level structuring practice.

## **Kearney Case Interview Examples**

Kearney publishes one official case interview example on its careers site.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.atkearney.com/working-here/ace-the-interview/case-example-promotion-planning) | Web-based case | Intermediate | Kearney interview preparation |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: A clean operational case typical of Kearney’s industry-anchored style. Useful as a primary source if Kearney is your target firm; otherwise treat as supplementary practice. For the initial assessment Kearney runs, see the (https://strategycase.com/kearney-recruitment-test/).

## **Roland Berger Case Interview Examples**

Roland Berger publishes four video-based case examples, two pairs covering different topics, with the second video in each pair walking through the solution.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.rolandberger.com/en/Join/Video/Webinar/Transit-oriented-development-1.html) | Video case | Intermediate | Urban development / public sector |
| (https://www.rolandberger.com/en/Join/Video/Webinar/Transit-oriented-development-2.html) | Video solution | Intermediate | Solution walk-through |
| [3D-Printed Hip Implants (Part 1)](https://www.rolandberger.com/en/Join/Video/Webinar/3D-printed-hip-implants-1.html) | Video case | Intermediate | Healthcare / medtech |
| [3D-Printed Hip Implants (Part 2)](https://www.rolandberger.com/en/Join/Video/Webinar/3D-printed-hip-implants-2.html) | Video solution | Intermediate | Solution walk-through |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: The video format is unusually valuable, you see how a Roland Berger interviewer actually walks a candidate through the solution. Even if you’re not interviewing with Roland Berger, watching the Part 2 walk-throughs sharpens your sense of what an interviewer expects.

## **Oliver Wyman Case Interview Examples**

Oliver Wyman publishes two official case examples covering their typical case style.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.oliverwyman.com/careers/apply/case-studies/wumbleworld.html) | Web-based case | Intermediate | Theme park / leisure case |
| (https://www.oliverwyman.com/careers/apply/case-studies/aqualine.html) | Web-based case | Intermediate | Industrial / B2B case |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Oliver Wyman cases lean quantitative, especially in financial services. Both Wumbleworld and Aqualine reward strong math fluency and clean structuring. Useful for any candidate who wants additional reps on mid-difficulty cases regardless of target firm.

## **LEK Case Interview Examples**

L. E.K. Consulting’s official case examples were previously published on their careers site but the link is currently unavailable. The firm-tagged L. E.K. cases in the (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/) from the Yale Graduate Consulting Club Casebook 2024 (Baby Helmets, Diagnostic Test, Apoplexy Drug) are currently the best L. E.K.-style practice. We’ll update this section if L. E.K. republishes their official cases.

## **Simon Kucher Case Interview Examples**

Simon Kucher publishes one case interview preparation PDF focused on their pricing-heavy case style.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.simon-kucher.com/sites/default/files/simonkucher_case_interview_prep_2015.pdf) | PDF workbook | Intermediate | Pricing-focused case practice |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Simon Kucher cases are pricing-heavy by design; this is the firm’s specialty. Use this case specifically for Simon Kucher preparation, and pair with the (https://strategycase.com/pricing-case-interview/) for the structuring patterns pricing cases demand.

## **OC&C Case Interview Examples**

OC&C Strategy Consultants publishes one case interview preparation document.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.scribd.com/document/389713809/OC-C-Ace-The-Case) | PDF | Intermediate | OC&C interview preparation |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: A solid official source for OC&C-specific preparation. The retail and consumer goods industry slant reflects OC&C’s practice focus.

## **Capital One Case Interview Examples**

Capital One uses business analyst case studies in its interview process. The official guide is published on the UK careers site.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://jobs.capitalone.co.uk/business-analyst-case-study-guide) | Guide + cases | Intermediate | Capital One BA interview |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Capital One cases are quantitative and decision-tree-heavy, different in flavour from MBB strategy cases. Use this only if you’re interviewing with Capital One; the case style is firm-specific.

## **Bridgespan Case Interview Examples**

Bridgespan, the leading social-sector strategy consulting firm, publishes four official practice cases reflecting non-profit and philanthropic strategy work.

| Case | Format | Difficulty | Best For |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| (https://www.bridgespan.org/bridgespan/Images/about-us/careers-at-bridgespan/Robinson-Philanthropy.pdf) | PDF | Intermediate | Philanthropy strategy case |
| (https://www.bridgespan.org/bridgespan/Images/about-us/careers-at-bridgespan/practice-case-interview-rfs-2019.pdf) | PDF | Intermediate | Modern Bridgespan practice case |
| (https://www.bridgespan.org/bridgespan/Images/about-us/careers-at-bridgespan/practice-case-interview-fall-2007.pdf) | PDF | Intermediate | Older Bridgespan case (foundational) |
| (https://www.bridgespan.org/bridgespan/Images/about-us/careers-at-bridgespan/venture-philanthropy.pdf) | PDF | Intermediate | Venture philanthropy investment case |

**Interviewer’s verdict**: Bridgespan cases are the best free practice material for any social sector or non-profit interview. The reasoning patterns differ meaningfully from for-profit strategy work, outcomes vs. revenue, mission alignment vs. competitive advantage. Even if you’re targeting MBB, the Bridgespan public sector cases are useful supplementary practice for the non-profit case archetype.

## **MBA Consulting Club Casebooks**

If you’ve worked through the official firm cases above and want more practice volume, the MBA consulting club casebooks add another 47 sources of cases, but only 16 of them are worth your time.

I read all 47 publicly available casebooks and rated each on realism (closeness to current MBB interview style), difficulty, variety, and freshness. The full tier-rated breakdown is in the (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/), but the short version:

- **Tier 1 (16 casebooks)**, Yale Graduate Consulting Club 2024, MIT Sloan 2020, Kellogg 2020, ESADE 2025, Tuck 2024, Darden 2024-25 and others. Realistic, recent, well-written. Use for partner practice.

- **Tier 2 (17 casebooks)**, useful for math drills or specific niches. Don’t make these your primary practice source.

- **Tier 3 (14 casebooks)**, outdated, recycled content, or surpassed by newer editions. Skip entirely.

The casebooks complement the firm-written cases above. The firm cases teach you the *style* each firm tests; the MBA casebooks give you bulk practice volume for math, exhibits, and structuring reps.

## **Case Interview Examples by Type**

Different cases test different skills. If you want targeted practice on a specific case archetype, here’s where to start within the firm-written collection:

- **Profitability**: McKinsey *Beautify*, Bain *Coffee*, Deloitte *Recreation Unlimited*. For the structuring patterns, see the (https://strategycase.com/profitability-case-interview/).

- **Market Entry**: Bain *FashionCo*, Oliver Wyman *Wumbleworld*, BCG *Digital Strategy*. Pair with the (https://strategycase.com/market-entry-case-interview/).

- **Growth Strategy**: BCG *Digital Strategy*, Deloitte *xFinTech*, Bain *FashionCo*. See the (https://strategycase.com/growth-strategy-case-interview/).

- **M&A**: McKinsey *Beautify* (variant), Deloitte *Capital Projects*. The (https://strategycase.com/mergers-and-acquisitions-case-interview/) covers the structuring rigor M&A cases demand.

- **Pricing**: McKinsey *Electrolight*, Simon Kucher PDF, Kearney *Promotion Planning*. See the (https://strategycase.com/pricing-case-interview/).

- **Operations**: McKinsey *Talbot Trucks*, Deloitte *Capital Projects*, Roland Berger *3D-Printed Hip Implants*. See the (https://strategycase.com/operations-case-interview/).

- **Public Sector / Non-Profit**: McKinsey *Diconsa*, McKinsey *National Education*, all four Bridgespan cases, Roland Berger *Transit-Oriented Development*. See the (https://strategycase.com/non-profit-public-sector-case-interview/).

- **Sustainability**: BCG *Climate Case*, McKinsey *Talbot Trucks*. Sustainability cases now appear in 2026-cycle MBB interviews regularly. For general guidance here, please refer to our (https://strategycase.com/wildcard-case-interview/).

## **Frequently Asked Questions**

### **What is a case interview example?**

A case interview example is a sample business problem used by consulting firms to test how candidates analyse and structure problems under pressure. Real case examples come directly from firms (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, etc.), reflect that firm’s actual interview style, and include suggested answers showing how a strong candidate would approach the problem.

### **How many case interview examples should I practice before my interview?**

Quality beats quantity. Plan for 15-25 high-quality cases practiced with reflection, not 60+ cases on autopilot. Start with the firm-written cases above (about 30 cases between MBB and Tier-2 firms), supplement with 5-10 cases from a Tier 1 (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/), and do each case with a partner plus a written reflection.

### **Which case interview examples are the best for McKinsey preparation?**

McKinsey’s own six cases (Beautify, Diconsa, Electrolight, GlobaPharm, National Education, Talbot Trucks) are the best preparation for McKinsey interviews, they reflect McKinsey’s interviewer-led style and current evaluation criteria. Start with Beautify for the cleanest demonstration of the McKinsey format.

### **Are free case interview examples enough to land an MBB offer?**

No. Free case interview examples, even the firm-written ones, give you the raw practice material, but they don’t teach the structuring style, hypothesis discipline, or business judgment that current MBB interviews demand. Use them as one input alongside (https://strategycase.com/case-interview-frameworks/), modern cases written by ex-MBB consultants, and feedback from someone who’s interviewed candidates at MBB.

### **What’s the difference between firm-written cases and MBA casebook cases?**

Firm-written cases come from McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and other firms directly, they reflect each firm’s actual interview style and evaluation criteria. MBA casebook cases are written by consulting club members at business schools, they capture how MBA students remembered past interviews, often 5-15 years ago. Use firm cases as your primary practice material; use MBA casebooks for math and exhibit drills. The full breakdown is in the (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/).

### **How long should a case interview example take to complete?**

A full case takes 25-40 minutes when practiced under realistic conditions. McKinsey and BCG interviews typically run 30-45 minutes total, with the case portion taking 25-35 minutes. Don’t shortcut the timing, half the skill being tested is performing under live time pressure, not just reaching the right answer.

### **Where can I find video case interview examples?**

The Roland Berger video cases linked above (Transit-Oriented Development and 3D-Printed Hip Implants, two parts each) are the only firm-published video cases currently available. They’re unusually valuable because you see how an actual Roland Berger interviewer walks a candidate through the solution. Watch the Part 2 walk-throughs even if you’re not interviewing with Roland Berger.

### **Where to Go From Here**

The 42 cases above are the only collection of case interview examples I’d hand to a candidate I was actually coaching. Use them in this order:

1. Build the underlying skills first with our (https://strategycase.com/all-in-one-case-interview-preparation/), these compound far faster than full cases.
2. Start with the MBB cases, McKinsey’s Beautify, Bain’s Coffee, BCG’s Climate Case. These set the bar for what “good” looks like.
3. Layer in your target firm’s official cases, Deloitte, Strategy&, Accenture, Kearney, Oliver Wyman, Roland Berger, Bridgespan, Simon Kucher, OC&C, Capital One depending on where you’re interviewing.
4. Supplement with Tier 1 (https://strategycase.com/free-mba-casebooks/), Yale GCC 2024, MIT Sloan 2020, Kellogg 2020 for additional volume on math, exhibits, and structuring.
5. Get insider feedback through [1-on-1 coaching](https://strategycase.com/florian-coaching/) at the point where peer practice plateaus (usually after case 5-8). That’s where most candidates break through to MBB-ready level.

For the broader prep journey, the (https://strategycase.com/consulting-case-interviews-a-comprehensive-guide/) walks through every skill area in depth.

The right preparation is fewer cases, deeper reflection, and feedback from someone who’s been on the other side of the interview table. That’s how the 1% breaks in.
