Why practice
Bain Says No Preparation Is Needed. Here’s What Still Costs Points.
Bain’s FAQ is right that the questions don’t test anything you can memorize. What costs points is the format.
40 to 50 seconds a question
51 questions in 39 minutes, with a separate clock for each section. Two minutes on one question and you’re short at the end.
No going back
Once you submit or skip a question, it’s gone. When the clock runs out, the answer you’re working on isn’t saved.
Two sections you’ve never practiced
Business Judgment and Leadership & People Management ask what you’d do as an advisor or a team lead. Few candidates have seen either before test day.
Bain sees how your score ranks against other candidates. You only see your percentage correct. TestGorilla reports a percentile to the employer, adjusted for question difficulty.
The format
51 Questions, 39 Minutes, Four Clocks
Each section has its own timer, so time you save in one doesn’t carry over to the next.
Numerical Reasoning
Multiple choice
Tables, charts, business word problems, and number sequences. Calculator allowed.
Business Judgment
2 options
Business situations with two plausible next steps. You pick the one a strong consultant would take first.
Leadership & People Management
4 options
Team situations with four leadership approaches, built on the Situational Leadership model.
Problem Solving
4 options
Scheduling, prioritizing by rules, reading data to decide, and quick logic.
That’s the most common version reported in 2026. Some versions add one timed video question at the end.

Where Bain Names TestGorilla
Most other offices, including the US and Europe, describe a “digital assessment” without naming the vendor. Europe is moving too: candidates applying to Bain London this recruiting cycle were sent TestGorilla. Bain’s email after you apply tells you whether yours is Sova or TestGorilla.

One Question From Each Section
These four aren’t in the mocks, so trying them spoils nothing. Pick an answer to see the explanation.
A retailer’s online sales grew from $240m in 2024 to $312m in 2025. Over the same period, its store sales fell from $760m to $722m. By how many percentage points did online’s share of total sales increase?
Answer: A. In 2024 the total was $1,000m, so online’s share was 24.0%. In 2025 the total was $1,034m, so the share was 312 / 1,034 = 30.2%. That’s an increase of 6.2 points.
Fast path: 24% at a glance, and 1,034 × 0.3 ≈ 310, so 312 is just over 30%.
Trap: D is online’s growth rate (72 / 240), not a change in share. C divides 2025 by the old total.
You advise a B2B software company. Its renewal rate fell from 92% to 84% in a year, almost entirely among small customers. The CEO wants to cut list prices by 15% for everyone. What should you do first?
Answer: A. The problem sits in one segment, so a cut for everyone gives away margin on large customers who aren’t leaving. Diagnose first, then fix the segment.
Trap: B looks rigorous because it involves numbers, but it evaluates the CEO’s solution before anyone understands the problem.
You lead a three-person workstream. A new analyst who joined two weeks ago is eager and confident but has never built a financial model. The client needs a first model draft in four days. What do you do?
Answer: A, the directing style. Low skill (no modeling experience) with high motivation (eager) calls for clear direction and close follow-up, especially on a four-day client deadline.
Trap: B and C fit someone who already has the skill. D (coaching) suits a learner whose motivation has dipped. This analyst doesn’t need persuading.
A team must run five client workshops, A to E, from Monday to Friday, one per day. B must come before D. E must be on Wednesday or Thursday. A must be the day after C. D can’t be on Friday. Which workshop is on Friday?
Answer: A (workshop A). D is ruled out directly, and E has to be midweek. B comes before D and C comes before A, so neither can be last. Only A is left.
Fast path: eliminate, don’t build the whole week. A full week works: B Monday, D Tuesday, E Wednesday, C Thursday, A Friday.

An explanation for every question
How to get to the answer, and usually the trap behind the most tempting wrong option. Business Judgment explanations give the principle a strong consultant applies. Leadership explanations name the style the situation calls for.
You are helping a regional bank cut operating costs by 15%. Branch staff are the biggest cost line, but branches bring in 60% of new accounts, and those customers are the bank’s most valuable. What should you look at first?
Answer: B. Cut where costs don’t create value. The branches bring in the most valuable customers, so cutting them hard to hit 15% could cost more revenue than it saves.
Trap: A feels fair, but cutting everything equally hits the value drivers just as hard as the waste.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly do I get for $39?
Five full-length mock exams of 51 questions and 39 minutes each, split into 20 timed section quizzes, with a worked explanation for all 255 questions. You get unlimited retakes and 1 year of access.
Will I get TestGorilla or Sova?
Bain’s email after you apply tells you. 17 offices name TestGorilla on their hiring pages, across the Middle East, Latin America, Greater China, and Southeast Asia. Most others, including the US and Europe, describe a “digital assessment” without naming the vendor, and Europe is moving too: candidates applying to Bain London this recruiting cycle were sent TestGorilla.
How many questions, and how long?
The most common version reported in 2026 has 51 questions in 39 minutes, across four separately timed sections. Some versions add one timed video question at the end. Bain’s FAQ puts the whole assessment at about 30 to 40 minutes.
Can I use a calculator?
Yes. Bain allows a calculator, pen, and paper on TestGorilla. Keep yours next to you for the mocks too.
Can I go back to a question?
No. On TestGorilla, once you submit or skip a question, you can’t return to it. The mocks work the same way.
How are the judgment answers decided?
In Business Judgment, the right answer is the option a strong consultant would choose first, such as understanding a problem before acting on it. TestGorilla builds its Leadership test on the Situational Leadership model, so the right answer is the style that fits the person’s skill and motivation in that situation. Each explanation spells out the reasoning.
Are these Bain’s real questions?
No. They’re original practice questions in the same style, with invented companies and numbers. Nobody legitimately has the real ones. This product is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Bain & Company or TestGorilla.
Does it cover the video question?
No. Some versions end with one timed video question, which candidates expect to be about motivation. Have a 60 to 90 second answer on why Bain ready.
Can I retake the mocks?
Yes, as often as you like during your year of access. Your first attempt at each mock is your honest benchmark, because a retake mostly measures your memory.
